The Food Co (Formally known as Iceland)

Today I would like to showcase The Food Co (also still referred to as Iceland & Overseas Supermarket) in Guia (Albufeira) & Portimão.

We are absolutely delighted that The Food Co in Guia has a trolley at the front of their store to collect donations for Algarve Emporium Charity. This has been there for us now for several years. We began feeding families at the start of Covid but soon realised this was not just going to be for a short term crisis but a long term commitment to the elderly and needy in our community of Tunes. Without the support of the staff & customers of the store, this would be far more difficult for us to provide the amount of food required on a weekly basis.

In addition to the regular food trolley we are also given advent calendars from the store and from the customers we receive a share of the sweets and treats donated at Christmas.

We are not the only charity that is helped by that branch of The Food Co. Tiny Shelter also has a trolley in the Guia (Albufeira) store. During the covid pandemic Support For Families (Su Davis) also received food from the trolley to help their families and continues to be supported with goodies every Christmas. I know she would like to add in her thanks too. Further to that the store have also raised money for AOA, Bomberios Albufeira, Pirilampos Orphanage, Castello de Sonhos & Faro Hospital.

In the Portimāo store you will find a trolley for the Portimāo Soup Kitchen. They have also helped Casa de Nossa Senhora da Conciçāo in Portimão & Animal Rescue Algarve.

However their help hasn’t just stopped there. I am delighted to say that, from time to time, we have been allowed to have a book table in both stores. We leave the preloved books in the store, for a prearranged number of weeks and customers are invited to choose and take home books for a suggested donation of 1€ per book.

Our Book Table is currently in the Portimāo store until 30th May.

We are deeply grateful for the kindness and support that we have received both from the customers and the staff of both these stores.
